Former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he had to constantly stop Donald Trump from breaking the law.

The diplomat broke his silence 9 months after he used to be fired by way of the president in a tweet.

Tillerson described Trump as “pretty undisciplined, doesn’t like to read, doesn’t read briefing reports … doesn’t like to get into the details of a lot of things.”

In reaction, Trump fired off an indignant tweet, branding Tillerson “dumb as a rock” and “lazy as hell”.

He wrote: “[Current Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo is doing an ideal activity, I’m very pleased with him.

“His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the psychological capability wanted. He used to be dumb as a rock and I couldn’t eliminate him rapid sufficient. He used to be lazy as hell.

“Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!”

Trump fired Tillerson in March after a sequence of public rifts over North Korea, Russia and Iran coverage, disregarding the former Exxon Mobil Corp leader govt in a tweet.

In addition to coverage disputes, members of the family have been strained by way of studies that Tillerson privately known as Trump a “moron.”

In an interview with CBS News political contributor Bob Schieffer on Thursday, Tillerson described how his courting with Trump had long gone off the rails.

Tillerson mentioned it could had been the results of his telling the president that he may just no longer do positive issues as a result of they have been unlawful or would violate US treaties.

“I’d have to say to him, well Mr. President, I understand what you want to do, but you can’t do it that way. It violates the law, it violates treaty,” Tillerson mentioned. “You know, he got really frustrated.”

An aide to Tillerson, who served as secretary of state from February 1, 2017 thru March 31, 2018, didn’t straight away reply to a request for remark.

When he decided on Tillerson to function the 69th secretary of state, Trump praised him lavishly, announcing: “His tenacity, broad experience and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice for Secretary of State.”

However, Tillerson led a demoralised State Department which noticed its position massively reduced, with a number of high-profile posts unoccupied and lots of allies wondering the efficacy of coping with a diplomat they suspected by no means had Trump’s ear.
