A former communist militant who Brazil’s new president had vowed to extradite has been detained in Bolivia, a Brazilian legit mentioned.

Italian Cesare Battisti is sought after for 4 murders in Italy all over the 1970s, which he denies committing.

Battisti spent years in Brazil as a refugee, sponsored through former left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

But far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who took place of work on 1 January, had pledged to ship him again to Italy.

Filipe G. Martins, a senior aide on global affairs to President Bolsonaro, tweeted that Battisti “will be soon brought to Brazil, from where he will probably be sent to Italy to serve a life sentence”.

An arrest warrant were issued for Battisti in December, when Brazil’s former President Michel Temer revoked his standing as an enduring resident.

The 64-year-old went at the run, and each his attorney and the police advised the BBC they’d no thought of his whereabouts.

Battisti, who has a five-year-old Brazilian son, advised AFP closing 12 months he would face “torture” and demise if he returned to Italy.
